Samarika Dhiman is a Toronto-based filmmaker with experience across directing, cinematography, editing, lighting, and sound. Her work is rooted in personal, character-driven storytelling, often exploring identity, culture, and belonging. With a strong background in editing, she approaches each project with a clear sense of structure and attention to detail from the start.

She has directed a PSA for the Inside Out Film Festival and worked as Director of Photography on both a short film and a documentary. After that, she worked as a videographer with STEPS Public Art, documenting installations across the city, and was selected as the first participant in a videographer internship at CBC, where she continued developing her skills in documentary filmmaking and cinematography. She was also a finalist at the Regent Park Film Festival, where she pitched her current documentary project.

Samarika has been drawn to filmmaking from a young age, and continues to see it as a way to bring personal and often underrepresented stories to the screen. She is especially interested in capturing small, honest moments that reflect larger experiences.

She is known for her strong work ethic and attention to detail, and doesn’t like to cut corners when it comes to getting the right shot. Whether working through tight timelines or complex shoots, she stays focused, adaptable, and committed to making work that feels both thoughtful and real.
